Nelson Island is located within the beautiful Sunshine Coast region on the South Coast of British Columbia. It has close proximity to the coastal mainland and is separated by the navigable passages of Jervis Inlet, Malaspina Strait, Agamemnon Channel, Telescope Pass and Blind Bay. Access and services are available from the communities of Egmont and Pender Harbour on the Sechelt Peninsula and Saltery Bay near Powell River on the upper Sunshine Coast.
Nelson Island is a large and diverse with lush coastal forests, high mountains, beautiful lakes and several beaches worth visiting. It totals approximately 97 Sq Km in size and measures 19.3 km in length and 7.8 km in width. It stretches all the way from the Sechelt Peninsula to Saltery Bay near Powell River.

Most of the properties on Nelson Island can be accessed by the calm waters of Agamemnon Channel or Jervis Inlet. There are a few choices for departure points to Nelson Island and some are better than others. From the Sechelt Peninsula there are 3 major access points, Pender Harbour, Egmont & Earls Cove.
There are multiple marinas in the Pender Harbour area providing access to properties on Malaspina Strait. These areas include Billings Bay, Cockburn Bay, Hidden Basin and the strata community of Quarry Bay. Given the close proximity to Pender Harbour subsidised water taxi services are available for Quarry Bay property owners.
There are 3 marinas in Egmont, the Back Eddy, Bath Gate and the Egmont Harbour Authority. Contact information is provided in links below. Moccasin Valley marina is located near Earls Cove and provides great access to Agamemnon Channel and properties in Blind Bay.
Saltery Bay Harbour Authority and Hummingbird Cove marina located south of Powell River are very close access points to the highly desirable Blind Bay area of Nelson Island. Boat storage and haul out services are available at Hummingbird Cove.

History
Nelson Island is named after the British Navy hero Viscount Horatio 1860 Captain George Richards in his surveying ship, the Plumber, charted the IslandThe island has a past history of logging operations and granite quarries. The first granite quarry opened in 1887 by Chandler and Sons with its product being used to build the B.C legislature building and Empress Hotel in Victoria and the Vancouver Law Courts, Victory Square and UBC Library in Vancouver.
