LOCATION

City of Duncan

Duncan is the heart of the Cowichan Region and can be found just off the Trans Canada Highway, about half-way between Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It is the smallest city by area (2.07 sq kms) in Canada and has a population of just over 5,000, but serves the Cowichan Valley, which has a population of approximately 84,000. Duncan is a very walkable, friendly community with the mild sunny climate of the Cowichan Valley. The downtown area has a number of heritage and vintage buildings and many delightful shops and restaurants, vineyards and the island’s largest year-round farmers’ market.

Town of Lake Cowichan

Lake Cowichan is a vibrant community that was incorporated as a municipality in 1944. It has a population of approximately 3,000 people with an additional 3,500 people living in the surrounding area. It is situated on Cowichan Lake, with the Cowichan River flowing through the center of town. It is 20 minutes by road from Duncan and can be reached via Duncan from either Vancouver, Victoria or Nanaimo.

Other communities in the Cowichan Lake area are Honeymoon Bay, Mesachie Lake and Youbou, which are all within easy reach by road.

Cowichan Lake

Cowichan Lake is a large freshwater lake located on southern Vancouver Island, BC, located along the Cowichan Valley. Its eastern shore is about 28 km (17 miles) west of Duncan, BC. The lake runs mostly west to east and is about 30 km (19 miles) long and 4 km (2.5 miles) wide at the widest point. It is also the source of the Cowichan River.
