The sheltered waters surrounding this breathtaking island provide world class salmon, halibut and crab fishing. Its location is paramount as it is within one of the best area in BC for catching “Tyee” class salmon over 30 lbs., you can catch up to 5 different species of salmon in the area.

People come from all over the world to fish from nearby Shearwater Resort, only a 30-minute boat ride away and an excellent place to visit for fine dining.

LOCATION

This Island is located at the mouth of Lizzie Cove in Lama Passage on the Central Coast. Lama Passage, separating Denny Island and Hunter Island is part of BC’s famed Inside Passage, the route used by most sea traffic including cruise ships and ferries. The nearest communities include Denny Island/Shearwater and Bella Bella.

It is easily accessed by boat, float plane or water taxi from Bella Bella or Shearwater. Pacific Coastal also offers flights from the South Terminal in Vancouver to Bella Coola or Bella Bella. Ferry service to Shearwater and Bella Bella bring both foot passengers and vehicles, including RV’s.

Lama Passage

Lama Passage has many twists and turns. The northern shore rises like a wall from the sea, while to the south, the land becomes flatter and the coastline broken up by coves and inlets. After the straight, wide reaches of Fitz Hugh Sound and Fisher Channel, the closeness of the land makes the passage seem somehow more intimate, and, as the sea is often calmer, more peaceful.

Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is the corridor of protected water between the mainland coast of BC and its offshore islands. The passage extends about 1,600 km from Puget Sound in Washington State to Skagway, Alaska. In the south it passes the Lower Mainland with its teeming population and continues north through Georgia Strait into the jumble of islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland. After leaping across the open waters of Queen Charlotte Sound the northern passage, it plunges once again into a network of narrow channels leading all the way to the northern terminus at Prince Rupert. This northern section is what many people mean when they use the term Inside Passage. For most of its length, it is sparsely populated and accessible only by water or float plane.

This area is also part of what is known as “The Great Bear Rainforest,” one of the world’s greatest wildlife areas. This area hosts many populations of all wildlife species on both the land and in the ocean. The Coast Mountain Range has isolated many of the wildlife populations from the rest of North America. As a result, the Great Bear rainforest is home to many subspecies and genetically unique populations such as the Spirit Bear and the Coastal Grey Wolves.

Denny Island

The small community of Denny Island has a year-round population of approximately 140 people. There are many services on Denny Island, including a grocery store, liquor store, post office, laundromat, cappuccino bar and gift store, hair salon, marina, shipyard, marine/hardware store, fuel dock, restaurant, pub, some B&B or cabin rental accommodations as well as a campground and RV park. There is also a public school servicing grades K-7.

RECREATION

Denny Island is in a prime location nestled in the centre of the spectacular and scenic Central Coast.
