Dragonfly Island, Blind Bay, BC, Canada

Description

2.5 acre private island located in desirable Blind Bay just off of Hardy Island. Includes sheltered dock with aluminum ramp and 10 x 16 ft starter cabin. The possibilities are endless with owning your own private island.

Summary :

This secluded island, commonly known as Dragonfly Island, is located on the spectacular Sunshine Coast, which is famous for its pristine waters, stunning coastal scenery and abundant wildlife. Just off the shore of historic Hardy Island at the mouth of Telescope Passage, this protected island awaits your arrival. Presenting various resourceful attributes, the Island's surroundings gift abundant oyster beds, clams, salmon, cod and prawn fishing.

Panoramic seascapes can be viewed from the building site at the south west side of the Island. From here looking across Blind Bay you will find Nelson Island to the south, Texada Island to the west and Hardy Island to the north. A beautiful gnarled mature Arbutus tree can be found outcropping on the ledge of the south eastern tip bordering this site.

The Island is comprised of diverse coastal trees and West Coast foliage. Each side of the Island gives host to different scenes. Take in watching otters play on the rocks on one side and an eagle swooping down to capture dinner on the other.

A private bay amid the dock location and Hardy Island makes an excellent place to bask in the sun and dip into the warm water. This warm water is created by the rise of the tide over the sun-drenched beach. It is also a safe protected area perfect for children to become mariners.

A small cabin is constructed on the Island, which can be used as a perfect hide away or guest cottage. The dock and ramp system have been constructed to eliminate any concerns and keep maintenance to "as little as possible."

The location of this island is paramount. Within 30 minutes you can be at every major service in the City of Powell River. Powell River has amenities including five major banks, a hospital, Walmart and three major grocery stores. Within 1 hour you can be in Vancouver’s International Airport. You have all these major amenities and comforts close to home. Call to book your appointment to view today!

There are endless amounts of shoreline to explore, but one does not have to venture any further than your own dock to catch your daily limit in prawns, crabs, oysters and clams.
Area Data :

Hardy and Nelson Islands
Hardy Island is a very popular destination because of its easy access from Vancouver. It is within a 5-10 minute boat ride from Saltery Bay Marina on the mainland. Within a 25-minute drive from Saltery Bay is the community of Powell River, which gives you access to all major services, including three major grocery stores, Walmart, two major building supply stores, hospital, restaurants and a municipal airport for regional transportation, in addition to a whole lot more.

Hardy Island is also unique because there are no mountains or major elevation rises, so most properties have excellent sunlight year-round for all residents. There is an internal road network which connects all the properties and most neighbors visit by quad or side-by-side. The road provides a great place to stretch your legs and get some exercise. Children will love it as a place to explore, build forts and ride bikes.

Typically, there are no predatory animals on the Islands, which provides a safe environment for all to use and enjoy.

Hardy Island is named after Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy. It is a sanctuary well sought after for its natural beauty, privacy, sheltered warm waters and abundance of marine wildlife. It is a recreational retreat that is easily accessed in a short period of time. Nelson Island is named after Viscount Horatio Nelson, the hero of the British Navy, and sits at the mouth of Jervis Inlet guarding the secrets of Prince of Wales Reach and Queens Reach.

Both Islands are famous with the yachting crowd for the scenery and anchorages in Blind Bay and Telescope Pass. The area has a lot to offer and is one of the few spots on the coast where you can feel the presence of the towering Coast Mountains while experiencing the expanse of the Strait of Georgia. It is a region with a mild, dry and semi-Mediterranean climate.

Powell River
Powell River a full-service community with a population of 22,000 is a year-round sea to sky recreation area. It is North America’s premiere boating, trophy fishing and diving destination, and includes world famous Desolation Sound Marine Park, award-winning marine and wilderness parks, golf courses, recreational facilities, services, shopping, dining, arts and culture.

Miles of hiking trails lead to beautiful lookouts, waterfalls, or peaceful lakes which can be viewed along the 180 km Sunshine Coast Trail and numerous recreational areas can be reached by logging roads, which are owned by logging companies. Boating and sports fishing are ardently pursued as all season sports. Marinas and Government docks are available to residents and visitors.

Powell River is known as the "HOT SPOT" for winter diving in North America. The "Mermaid" at Mermaid Cove in Saltery Bay Provincial Park is an extra special attraction. The area also has some of the largest wolf eel and octopus in the world. Canoeing may also be enjoyed on the quiet lakes of Powell River or you can take in the Powell Forest Canoe Route Circuit. Ocean canoeing and kayaking is very popular in Jervis Inlet, the Copeland Islands Marine Park, Malaspina Inlet with Okeover Arm and Desolation Sound. For all the nature lovers and sightseers, Powell River has many parks, viewpoints and beaches to explore, and the hiking club will help you take advantage of the many beautiful trails. Bird watching is also unprecedented.
