Duncan is the heart of the Cowichan Region and can be found just off the Trans Canada Highway, about half-way between Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It is the smallest city by area (2.07 sq kms) in Canada and has a population of just over 5,000, but serves the Cowichan Valley, which has a population of approximately 84,000. Duncan is a very walkable, friendly community with the mild sunny climate of the Cowichan Valley. Lake Cowichan is a vibrant community that was incorporated as a municipality in 1944. It has a population of approximately 3,000 people with an additional 3,500 people living in the surrounding area.
