100 Acre Oceanfront-Desolation Sound, Lund, BC, Canada

Description

Two titles of land with over 2,490 ft of stunning oceanfront encompassing the east side of Price Point, featuring low-bank frontage, beaches, creeks, deepwater moorage potential, varied terrain and flexible future use. Truly a rare offering in this region.

SUMMARY

Rare opportunity to acquire two adjacent oceanfront titles, each approximately 50 acres in size, with a combined 2,490 feet of shoreline near Prideaux Haven, east of Price Point in Homfray Channel. These large, undeveloped waterfront parcels lie in one of the most sought-after regions of the BC coast, offering excellent privacy, low-bank oceanfront, beautiful beaches, creeks running through the land, deepwater moorage potential, and varied terrain ranging from accessible shoreline to rugged forested slopes. Historically, the land was selectively logged in the 1980s with excellent regrowth and remains largely in its natural, heavily treed state, providing flexible options for future use.

What sets this property apart is its easily accessible location from Lund, Campbell River, or Cortes Island, right at the heart of the internationally renowned yachting destination, Desolation Sound. Access is by boat only, typical for this region, with reliable travel via private vessel, water taxi, or floatplane service from Vancouver or other coastal communities. The nearest community, Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island, offers a general store and marina. Refuge Cove on West Redonda Island is only 15 km southwest and has a restaurant, marina, supplies, and fuel.

The shoreline on these parcels varies from rocky sections to areas with attractive rocky/gravel beaches filled with clams and oysters. The view from the property includes a breathtaking scene of sailboats and motor yachts passing through the channel against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, ensuring an ever-changing coastal panorama.

Homfray Channel itself is known for its deep, sheltered waters that offer reliable marine travel year-round. Adjacent to these parcels is Desolation Sound Marine Park—BC’s largest marine park—protecting islands, coves, and sheltered anchorages popular with boaters and kayakers. East Redonda Island is protected by ecological reserve designation, ensuring minimal development and preserving a large portion of the view from these properties.

The area is renowned for excellent fishing opportunities, including salmon, bottom fish, and prawns, with Toba Inlet only a 30-minute boat ride away offering exceptional salmon fishing. Boating and kayaking are outstanding, with countless inlets and islands to explore, while the warm, clear summer waters are unique on the BC coast and often reach swimming temperatures. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with seals, sea lions, dolphins, and frequent sightings of humpback and orca whales.

With no specific zoning in place, these properties offer considerable flexibility for future development. Potential uses range from private wilderness estates to eco-tourism ventures or retreat sites. The terrain provides options for multiple building sites with easy shoreline access. Large oceanfront parcels of this size and character are seldom found in this region, making this an exceptional opportunity to secure a significant holding in one of British Columbia’s most celebrated coastal areas.

For further details or to arrange a viewing, please contact Jamie or Jason.

Location

Located in Homfray Channel in Desolation Sound near Prideaux Haven, east of Price Point, the property sits at the heart of one of BC’s most scenic coastal regions, northeast of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, and within easy boating distance of Lund on the Sunshine Coast and Cortes Island.

Area Data

Desolation Sound Provincial Marine Park

Desolation Sound Provincial Marine Park, at 8,256 hectares, is British Columbia’s largest marine park. It includes over 60 km of shoreline, several offshore islands, and a gently rising upland with lakes, waterways, and waterfalls. Unwin Lake, covering 173 hectares, is the park's largest freshwater body. To the north and east, the Coast Mountains rise to over 2,400 metres. The warm surrounding waters are rich with sea life, ideal for swimming, scuba diving, and harvesting salmon, cod, prawns, crab, clams, and oysters. Many other delicacies lie on the ocean floor, waiting for those willing to put on scuba gear and get wet.

East Redonda Island

East Redonda Island is part of the Discovery Islands archipelago, just north of Desolation Sound Marine Park at the mouth of Toba Inlet. It is separated from the larger West Redonda Island by Waddington Channel and from the mainland by Homfray Channel. Its highest point is Mount Addenbroke, at 5,220 feet. The island also includes the East Redonda Island Ecological Reserve, established in 1971 for forestry research and monitoring forest growth.

Cortes Island

Just across the channel lies Cortes Island, where large salmon gather in early autumn. This 116-square-mile island is accessible by ferry and is known for its spectacular scenery, clean air, beautiful beaches, and excellent fishing. With only two stop signs, it offers a laid-back atmosphere that is especially popular with visitors during the summer months.

Lund

Lund is a small village about 17 miles north of Powell River and marks the northern terminus (or, as locals like to argue, the starting point) of Highway 101, which runs all the way to Chile in South America. The historic Lund Hotel is the heart of the village and serves as the symbolic gateway to Desolation Sound Marine Park. It offers 27 well-appointed guest rooms, a pub, and a restaurant with unobstructed ocean views and excellent menus. In warmer months, guests can dine on the spacious waterfront decks, enjoying the ocean breeze and the activity in Lund Harbour. Historic photos throughout the hotel tell the story of Lund and its maritime heritage.

Powell River

With a population of approximately 20,000, Powell River is the largest nearby community. It is increasingly popular for its affordable cost of living and high quality of life. The area is surrounded by natural beauty, from oceanfront vistas to more than 100 nearby lakes. This friendly seaside town offers big-city amenities without the usual parking or traffic hassles. Services include a full-service hospital, medical and dental clinics, chiropractic and physiotherapy offices, massage therapy, health and beauty spas, a newly renovated recreation complex, full banking services, marine facilities, outdoor guides and outfitters, a championship par-72 golf course, and a wide variety of retail stores, art galleries, gift shops, and dining options.

Recreation

The surrounding area offers outstanding recreational opportunities both on and off the water. Boating and kayaking are world-class, with countless sheltered inlets, coves, and islands to explore throughout Desolation Sound and Homfray Channel. Anglers enjoy excellent fishing for salmon, lingcod, and bottom fish, as well as prawning and crabbing in the nearby channels and Toba Inlet. The warm, clear summer waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, while scuba divers can harvest clams, oysters, and other shellfish. Onshore, hiking and wildlife viewing are exceptional, with old-growth forests, waterfalls, and diverse marine and terrestrial wildlife. The area’s pristine setting attracts visitors seeking adventure, relaxation, and the simple beauty of the coastal wilderness.

History

Captain Vancouver in 1792 named it Desolation Sound, because of the rugged appearance, the silence and the fog. Today, it is one of the main boating spots for city dwellers, wanting to get away from it all. The most popular destinations within Desolation Sound are Grace Harbour, Tenedos Bay and Prideaux Haven. Grace Harbour has anchorage along the shore, while Tenedos Bay offers protected anchorage in many coves. Then there is Prideaux Haven, with unsurpassed scenery, old historic sites and settlements, with places that offer protection when anchored.
